When a protestor attempts to publish a campaign against a company whom he believes is engaged in immoral activity and attends a protest against that company he finds himself in jail for 4 years 6 months.

This is the fate of Sean Kirtley who is now incarcerated for campaigning against animal testing company Sequani at Ledbury in Herefordshire.

A new law called SOCPA brought in by the Blair government makes it an offence to attempt to campaign against contractual relationships when animal testing laboratories are involved. When the state uses law to protect private companies from public protest and exposure of their business relationships this is, in Mussolini’s words, fascism.

How long now until arms dealers, factory food chains, and GMO importers successfully lobby for the same protections of their activities from public protest? We are heading down the slippery slope towards a fascist police state in which the individual is powerless against corporate interests.
