1984 Has Come of Age

We all knew it was coming but it is now with us. The State, in the EU at least now has the power to profile you. A very refined power.

Take social network analysis from telecommunications data. Take mobile phone locational data (your movements) and the State now has a very clear picture of what kind of person you are. Artificial intelligence analysis methods can take a look at patterns over time and… yes, you are a suspect. It’s a signature for profiling that is as clear as the colour of a person’s skin.

Certain patterns of association and movements indicate that you are of interest to security agencies because you are a currency speculator, an anti-war protestor, or simply a dark horse who warrants a closer look because, you know, we understand what the rest are up to – but the outliers, they are always up to something we should know about…

Blue Pill or Red?

On the one hand green shoots of economic recovery, Iraq and Iran slowly stabilising, and no major walkouts at Copenhagen.

On the other hand, we are in the midst of a depression and on the precipice of major economic and social collapse, war is about to break out in multiple centres, and martial law could easily be declared in Western countries. The US is considering a draft in order to respond to geopolitical concerns, the exhaustion of its military, and homeland security fears.

On the one hand we are still chasing the dream, on the other reality is turning out to be a nightmare. Take the blue pill… X-factor!

It was true in 1933 and it is just as true now. We submit to the idea of authority when almost all authority is illegitimate. The only legitimate authority is that based in immediacy and consensus, all other codified versions become corrupt as soon as they are written. Read more…
